This week in kindergarten we learned about letter Qq. We learned the letter Qq has a broken leg and needs help from the letter Uu to get around. The kindergarteners are doing an excellent job of hearing the different vowel sounds when labeling pictures.
In writing workshop we are working on editing our favorite book to make it better so it is ready to be published.
In math we are really working hard to use a ten frame to help us know that teen numbers are 10 and some more. We made a March calendar and are continuing to revisit adding and subtracting.
In reading workshop students are working hard to use the reading strategies to read books to their partners. Students are working hard to become better readers.

This week in kindergarten we are learning a new vowel sound /u/. Students are working really hard to read and spell words with all of the vowel sounds we have learned so far.
In math we are working on learning about 2-dimensional (square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon, circle) and 3-dimensional shapes (sphere, cube, pyramid, cylinder). We learned how 2-dimensional shapes are flat and 3-dimensional shapes are not. We talked about how some 3-dimensional shapes can slide or roll and stack. We are also working to remember the names of these shapes.
In writing workshop we are working with our reading partners who check to make sure our writing is readable.
Yesterday we exchanged Valentine's with our friends. Today we talked about President's day.

I cannot believe we are already in February! Valentine's day is approaching soon! We will have time during the day to exchange Valentines. It is not a requirement for your child to send in Valentines, however, if you do choose for your child to send in Valentines please make sure you have enough for everyone in the class. We have 17 students in our class.
It would be easier if your child did not specify who the Valentine is for by leaving the "to" part blank. This will speed up the passing out process. However if you would prefer that this part is filled out that is fine too.
If your child has his or her Valentines made early, feel free to send them in. I will have a place for them until we are ready to exchange them.
Please remember our school policy on candy. If you child's Valentine contains candy, it cannot be distributed at school. Thank you!
